HALLOWEEN IS NEAR AND THE VEIL IS THIN
My girls and I love this time of year. We have always celebrated Halloween. A time when, according to tradition, the spirits of the dead draw closer to the living. A time when the veil between the physical and spiritual worlds is believed to be thin.

It’s a time of traditional spookiness! But although spirit is often portrayed as scary, my experience has taught me that our connection with spirit can be about so much more than fear. For many, it is about love, connection and the desire to communicate with those who have passed.
But what does this really mean, and how might we experience it in our everyday lives?
For me, it can feel as though spirit is so close you could almost reach out and touch it. Some of the ladies in my groups and some of my clients have shared experiences of feeling the physical touch of loved ones who have passed. Others describe things moving, items mysteriously reappearing, or hearing messages during sleep.
These are experiences people don’t always have an explanation for, but they can leave a lasting impression.
I have just written a blog about my dreams and the possible influence of the planetary energies at this time. It got me thinking about our sleep time and how, for many people, dreams can become a place where memories, emotions and spiritual experiences feel particularly vivid.
Why might this be?
When we sleep, our physical bodies relax and our conscious minds rest. Our subconscious becomes more active, and we may experience dreams that feel incredibly real, receive unexpected insights or find ourselves connecting with people and places from our past.
From my own spiritual perspective, and through what I have experienced in the Akashic Records, I understand sleep as a time when the soul may continue its journey beyond our ordinary waking awareness.
Astral travel: journeys beyond the everyday
In my understanding, sleep can also be a time when, if we choose, we may experience what is known as astral travel.
This is something I have experienced myself, although it wasn’t something I initially set out to do.
I remember travelling to the top of the Seattle Tower for a reason that has never become clear to me. On another occasion, I found myself at the Taj Mahal, a place I had always wanted to visit. I have also experienced what I understood to be remote viewing, where I seemed to observe people I knew from a distance.
These experiences were incredible to me. They felt vivid and real, although I often felt very tired afterwards.
It’s been a few years since I last experienced astral travel, and it’s not something I choose to pursue these days. Our spiritual journeys are personal, and what we feel drawn to explore at one stage of life may not be something we wish to continue exploring later.
For me, the important thing is that we feel comfortable with our experiences and remain in control of our own boundaries.
My experiences with spirit during sleep
There is another side to my experiences that I want to share, although I know it may sound a little frightening to some.
On two occasions, I have experienced something that I understood spiritually as a walk-in: an experience in which I felt another presence trying to communicate through my body.
I had not given permission for this, and I found it unsettling because I didn’t understand what was happening at the time.
There was a feeling of paralysis. I couldn’t move or speak, and naturally, that brought up a degree of panic.
The first experience involved a relative of mine who had passed away at a young age. I felt that he wanted me to understand something about how he had died. During the experience, I felt as though I was experiencing his suffering, and it was deeply distressing.
The second involved an older relative. I experienced what I interpreted as a message about the latter stages of her life and a belief that she had been poisoned.
These were powerful and emotional experiences for me. I understood them as attempts to have painful stories witnessed and understood, but I cannot know for certain what caused them.
I also want to make it clear that these are my personal experiences. They are not something everyone will experience, and they are not something to fear simply because you are exploring your spirituality.
Experiences of paralysis around sleep can also occur naturally as part of the sleep-wake cycle. Knowing that can be reassuring if you ever experience something similar.
At the time, I felt that I was expanding spiritually but wasn’t setting clear boundaries around the experiences I was willing to have. Whether you understand these experiences spiritually or through the science of sleep, feeling safe matters.
I now make my boundaries very clear within my spiritual practice. I do not give permission for this type of experience, and I do not wish to experience communication that feels as though it is taking over my physical body.
Our spiritual journey should never mean that we have to accept experiences that leave us feeling frightened or unsafe.
We can be curious about spirit, open to love and connection, and still have boundaries about what we are comfortable experiencing.
Halloween, the power of words and the spells we cast
Which brings me back to Halloween and the power of casting spells.
When I work within the realm of the Akashic Records, I encounter what I understand to be vows, contracts and spells associated with the souls and lifetimes of my clients. In my practice, these are explored as patterns that may be ready to be understood, released or cleared.
But there is something else I think is important to remember.
The words we speak carry power.
We often think of spells as something deliberate, perhaps performed with candles, rituals and incantations. Yet we can be creating our own patterns through the words we repeat every day, often without realising it.
Think about the things we say to ourselves:
“I’m not good enough.”
“Nothing ever works out for me.”
“I’ll never find love.”
“I’m always going to struggle.”
What happens when we repeat these words over and over again? They can become beliefs that shape how we see ourselves, the choices we make and the possibilities we allow ourselves to imagine.
In this sense, our words can become spells of their own. Not necessarily through supernatural forces, but through the meaning we give them and the way they influence our lives.
And if our words can reinforce old patterns, they can also help us create new ones.
What if, instead, we began saying:
“I am worthy of love.”
“I am open to new possibilities.”
“I release what no longer serves me.”
“I am allowed to choose a different path.”
For me, this is part of the power of the Akashic Records work I do: bringing awareness to the old patterns we may have carried for a long time, so that we can begin to move forward differently.
Halloween is traditionally associated with a thinning veil between worlds, making it a meaningful time for many people to reflect on spirit, intention and what they wish to release. Whether or not we believe manifestation happens more quickly at this time, it is a beautiful opportunity to become more mindful of the energy, intentions and words we put out into the Universe.
What are you choosing to create?
What are you ready to release?
And what would you like to invite into your life?
Remember the love
As Halloween approaches, I hope you enjoy this magical time of year.
Remember your loved ones who have passed. Think of the memories you shared, the laughter, the love and the moments that will always remain part of you.
Many people find comfort in signs, dreams and unexpected reminders of those they have lost. Whether you understand these moments as spiritual connections, memories or the way love continues to live within us, they can bring a beautiful sense of closeness.
I believe that love is something we carry with us, long after someone has left this physical world.
So, if you feel drawn to connect with spirit at this time of year, do so in a way that feels right for you. You don’t need to invite anything into your space, perform a ritual or seek an experience. You can simply remember someone you love and hold them in your heart.
And as you move through this time of year, remember to be mindful of the words you speak, the beliefs you hold and the intentions you set.
Keep your heart open to love, honour your boundaries, and choose your words with care.
Wishing you all a magical Halloween. May it bring you beautiful memories, meaningful reflections and a little magic of your own.
Much love,
Lorraine xx
